SUMMARY: LAND OF THE LOST is a very vulgar remake of what was a children's TV show, about a foul-mouthed, pompous scientist, his new assistant and a redneck survivalist, who accidentally get trapped in another dimension with dinosaurs, a caveman alien and a group of nasty, but slow-moving lizard men up to no good. Despite some very funny clean moments, LAND OF THE LOST is a rambling, abhorrent exercise in offensive, sexual, scatological, stoner jokes.
IN BRIEF:
LAND OF THE LOST is a vulgar remake of what was a children's TV show. It stars Will Farrell as Professor Rick Marshall, a foul-mouthed, pompous scientist who invents a space-time device to travel between dimensions. Marshall, his new assistant and a redneck survivalist are accidentally taken to the Land of the Lost. They befriend Chaka, a furry alien who looks like a caveman primate. A Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur constantly pursues them. Both Chaka and the dinosaur are smarter than they seem. They encounter an area with crystals, guarded by slow-moving alien zombies in the service of a mean alien who wants to conquer the universe. They also discover that the professor's machine is causing artifacts to come from our dimension into Chaka's.
Despite some very funny moments, LAND OF THE LOST is a rambling exercise in offensive, sexual, scatological, stoner jokes. Everything from pot to hard narcotics is extolled. Sex is a constant refrain for the jokes, including homosexuality. Finally, this abhorrent movie contains 88 obscenities and a blasphemous joke mocking Jesus. MOVIEGUIDE®'s recommendation is to avoid LAND OF THE LOST and see Pixar/Disney's UP or the original TV series instead.
