SUMMARY: HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU is a funny, entertaining romantic comedy about the absurdities of "modern dating." There is a mixed message about marriage, however, plus some foul language and implied sexual immorality.
IN BRIEF:
HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU is a funny, entertaining romantic comedy about the absurdities of "modern dating." An all-star cast portrays several couples and their trials and tribulations. Ben begins to cheat on his wife Janine with Anna. Neil won't commit to marry Beth, even though they've been living together for seven years. Meanwhile, lovelorn Gigi sits by the phone trying to get a date. The voice of reason is Alex, who advises Gigi and other women that, if a man doesn't call, it's because he's not interested. That's the rule, and no one is the exception.
HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU carries a number of mixed messages. The foremost is somewhat positive in that it says women should be realistic when it comes to relationships, though it doesn't excuse the men's negative actions in the story. Another positive message is that honesty is important. Sadly, Neil and Beth debate the value of marriage but conclude that it's not important if the couple is committed. Also, one marriage ends in divorce because of adultery. These mixed messages, and the movie's foul language and implied sexual immorality, warrant extreme caution.
